VC delegates exam-conduct powers to dept chairmen
In a move to streamline the examination system, the Vice-Chancellor has delegated powers from the examination branch to the department chairmen. The chairmen will now be responsible for the conduct of the examinations, evaluation and compilation of results. The examination branch of the university will only be notifying and declaring the results. Talking to The Tribune, the Vice-Chancellor Dr R.C. Sobti, said this had been done mainly to reduce delay in the declaration of results. He said the new system would be applicable only to the university campus departments and not its affiliated colleges. The examination branch of the university will receive the examination forms and issue roll numbers, following which the entire conduct of the examinations in the departments will be taken over by the chairmen.
Medco, LabCorp Strike Strategic Agreement for Research on Personalized ...
Genetic testing can help clinicians identify risk factors for disease and predict how a person is likely to respond to a wide variety of drugs, including commonly used prescriptions such as pain relievers, anticoagulants, and cancer drugs. This information has a bearing on what drug is selected and may help optimize doses for particular drugs. "The adoption of new technologies needs to accelerate when there is clear evidence of clinical and financial benefit. These new tests can help ensure patients are getting the right medication at the right dosage, while also assisting to avoid adverse drug events," Medco Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Epstein said. "This agreement with LabCorp is part of Medco's strategy to partner with established leaders in the area of personalized medicine to bring the most advanced approaches to pharmacy care to our clients and their members." Genes and precise care Research has demonstrated that patients respond to drugs about 50-75 percent of the time.

Analog to digital: What’s the deal with digital television?
Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Sears and Circuit City will carry the boxes, but many of them have yet to receive them. Officials with Wal-Mart and Sears in Enid indicated they have not received any converter boxes yet and don't know when they will. Representa-tives of both retailers indicated it could be anywhere from late spring to mid-summer before the boxes will be available. Boxes generally will be priced between $40 and $70. Forbes said the difference between boxes will simply be what optional and additional choices are available. The $40 boxes will provide only basic conversion services. Consumers will need one digital-to-analog converter box for each analog television or analog VCR/DVD in their home.Retailers are required to keep a reasonable stock of the converter boxes once they are available.
