| Evolutionists At War Over Altruism’s Origins
An intellectual war of words has broken out between two of the world's leading evolutionists. Oxford University's Richard Dawkins and Harvard's Edward Wilson have gone head to head over the evolution of altruism in the animal kingdom, and whether it can have come about as a result of something called group selection.The subject matter of their dispute is social insects, particularly ants, which display a supreme form of altruism in that sterile workers lay down their lives for the benefit of their fertile colleagues in the colony. Conventional Darwinian theory could not really explain why one individual should sacrifice its own life, and its precious genes, for the benefit of another individual, unless it could be viewed in terms of group selection, when indi-viduals do it for the benefit of the colony or the species.
Financed Medical Care: Only Fair
When people gripe about the "immoral over-spenders who default on loans," they often miss how devastating medical bills can be to even a relatively healthy budget. I've taken care of someone who's health insurance from a private entity would've been $1,500 a month (no joke, he was gravely ill with multiple ailments) and who's ER visits would've amounted to $16,000 per. If he didn't receive government help in the form of Medicare, I could not imagine how he could ever pay the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. Those souless enough to declare people like him a moocher on their taxes should be lucky they don't face his ailments and think about the fact that without government help, his life would've been agonizing (and it already wasn't easy) and a decade shorter.

Thank you, Hannah and Amber, for your heart-felt letters on Dec. 23 and thank you TRN for printing them; they make a great point. Like many parents and most teachers, these children are NOT getting a fair and balanced view of this nation and its problems. I would love to use the myth of global warming as a perfect example, BUT I will stick with their two; the biggest issue in child abuse today (as proven by a mojor university just a month ago) is single-parent homes where a single mom brings in a man that is NOT the father. Over and over again this leads to the death of the child. But secular parents who may be single themselves refuse to admit their mistakes in choices. .
What’s New at the PGA Show for Women Golfers
I watch trends. So, why year after year do I go to the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando and walk five miles to see over 1,200 exhibits? The answer is to find out whats new for women golfers. This is very important for a marketing consultant in the golf industry.
Historically, manufacturers of golf apparel and products complained as well as service providers like golf resorts that women were not really good customers. They didnt spend enough or play enough. My answer has been that these complainers were not spending money on advertising or promotions specifically targeted to women golfers. They were getting a minimal return for minimal efforts.
But savvy manufacturers are putting more marketing dollars in their womens lines. Thats good news because it will show that a real marketing investment in women golfers will yield a profitable return.
