JAQUITTA'S JOURNEY: Read Her Blog

I'm going to make this one short and sweet.

I'm sitting at my desk after making my necessary phone calls to set up my upcoming story. It's so good to see my co-workers and fill them in on how I'm feeling, and to find out how they've been doing.

I will admit after work yesterday I was pooped!! I had gotten used to taking naps during the day and now I can't. My energy level was pretty good for most of the day.

Radiation is still in full swing. I have to have my necessities at all times with me. One, my deodorant. I can't have anything on when I'm having radiation and it has to be all natural when I do apply it after my treatment. Two, my aloe vera to slather on after treatment to keep my skin as healthy as I can until it starts to change and look like I've got a horrible sunburn in the middle of winter.

If Giuliani had the courage to say that, we might start to believe him. ... 3:23 P.M. (link)

Mood Ring: If malaise, like revenge, is a dish best served cold, the Bush administration is keeping Republicans exceedingly well-fed. In the latest Newsweek poll, the president matched Jimmy Carter's record low with a 28 percent approval rating. It took Richard Nixon a quarter-century to have Seven Crises. For George W. Bush, seven crises is a pretty good week.

Republican presidential candidates are trying their hardest to look on the bright side. At last week's debate at the Reagan Library, the field mentioned optimism more often than bin Laden. Giuliani chanted the word four times—three times in a single answer. Bush's favorite word, resolve, didn't come up once.

Newsom 'absolutely not convinced' that he'll seek second term as S.F ...

Cruz Bustamante could be headed for a fall in his race against Republican mega-millionaire Steve Poizner.

-- Treasurer: In the game of Sacramento musical chairs, former East Bay state assemblyman turned state senator turned Attorney General Bill Lockyer is expected to get the voters' nod for this job over Republican rival Claude (say who?) Parrish.

-- Controller: It's neck-and-neck between Democrat John Chiang and Republican Tony Strickland. Not a lot of flash, nor a lot of cash going into the race -- although the unions would like it to be Chiang. After all, the controller sits on the public employee pension boards, and those are votes that count.

-- Secretary of state: Another neck-and-necker. The last we heard, Democratic state Sen. Debra Bowen -- the only woman from either party running for one of the constitutional offices -- was ahead by two points against GOP incumbent Bruce McPherson.
