Women create animal calendar to benefit struggling zoo (Watch VIDEO)

GULF BREEZE — Roree Lange has made several trips to The Zoo Northwest Florida since moving to Milton more than three years ago to see her favorite animal, the female orangutan Sarah. When she first heard The Zoo could close if $1 million is not raised by the end of the year, her first thoughts were of doing something to save the facility and Sarah. Lange and her daughter, April Ball, have designed and printed a 2008 calendar to raise money for The Zoo. The calendar is currently available at nearly 40 businesses in Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Escambia counties, including all 12 branches of the Bank of America. "We jumped on the calendar idea. We knew it was something that could be done very easily," Lange said.

College athletics is a BIG business and we MUST spend a little money to make money. How foolish does UH look for their penny-pinching now? They may have saved a few thousand dollars in the short-term, but they've lost BIG in the long term. They've not only lost their coach, they've lost their national credibility. We can learn a lot from our friends on the island. The administration AND the fans need to step up if Louisiana Tech Athletics is to be nationally relevant.Jonathan Nida is a CHAMPS member and a season ticket holder. Teen Gang Members Turned Young Girls Into Prostitutes

FORT WORTH, Tex. - Several teenage gang members have been arrested on suspicion of forcing girls as young as 12 into a prostitution ring, police said Tuesday.

After befriending the girls and getting them high, Varrio Central gang members took them to some regular customers and then sought other men by trolling apartment complexes, offering the girls' services for $50, Fort Worth police Lt. Ken Dean said.

The gang apparently targeted runaways and other girls with unstable homes, and if the girls refused to have sex for money the members beat and sexually assaulted them and threatened their families, Dean said.

"The age of the victims and suspects is the surprising part of it," Dean said. "To have such young individuals in a somewhat organized business, a forced prostitution ring, is somewhat alarming and such a horrendous crime against the 12- to 16-year-old girls."

Detectives found five victims, ages 12 to 16, but believe there may be more.

Freebie Fridays Help You Save Cash

This is a Freebie Friday that won't cost you money, but it could cost you some serious time. I'm talking about an internet golf game so new, it's only in beta right now. The people behind the website have partnered with Kiawah Island Golf Resort, taken tons of professional photos and used them to make a golf game you can play on the internet.

The makers of the game say it's the most authentic online golf game out there. Since it's the only online golf game I've ever played, I can't speak to that, but I recently read a column about this game in fortune magazine. The columnist goes so far as to predict that when the game goes live in June, business productivity in offices around the country will drop precipitously.

Since the game is in beta, the only game you can play right now is a "closest to the pin" competition, but this summer you can play the entire course against your friends on the internet.

After a tragic accident, Ron Lauer hopes to regain control of his ...

Cynthia Torp, founder of Angel Investor Network, a Fort Collins company that helps people facing or in foreclosure, is trying to save the mill and Lauer's business, though both could look drastically different in the future.

The bank holding the mill's first mortgage foreclosed on the property nearly six weeks ago, a position in which an increasing number of Larimer and Weld county residents find themselves.

Legally, Lauer has 75 days, called the redemption period, to get his property back. That's where Torp and her Angel Investor network come in.

Centennial Bank, which has the second lien, wants a certain amount of money Lauer owes and a guarantee they will get paid when Lauer settles an $11.5 million lawsuit against three companies involved in the accident.

"That is certainly doable," Torp said.

Unlikely Holyrood alliance helps SNP squeeze home in budget vote

THE Scottish Government's historic first budget passed its initial parliamentary test last night – thanks to the co-operation of an unlikely alliance of Tories, Greens and Margo MacDonald. In a knife-edge vote after a four-hour debate, the government won by 64 votes to 62, with the two Green MSPs abstaining. All 47 SNP MSPs supported the budget, backed by the 16 Tories and Ms MacDonald, the independent who represents the Lothians. However, in order to secure their support, John Swinney, the finance secretary, had to make a series of concessions. He promised the Conservatives that he would look again at finding more money for extra police officers and at accelerating the introduction of a promised business-rate cut.To assuage the Greens, he said the Scottish Government would in future insist on a "carbon" assessment of the next spending review and repeated it would not continue the £6 million fund to set up new airline routes to and from Scotland.Mr Swinney also pledged to give more money to Edinburgh council to recognise the city's status as the capital, one of Ms MacDonald's key demands. After a day of tension at Holyrood, the final vote saw Labour and the Lib Dems round on the Conservatives and their leader, Annabel Goldie, for supporting the SNP administration.Tavish Scott, the Lib Dem finance spokesman, said: "The Tories deserve nothing but derision for having sold their votes to the SNP for a half-baked promise.
