Nicole Kidman expecting baby

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have confirmed this morning that they are expecting a baby," a spokeswoman told The Daily Telegraph. "The couple are thrilled."

Kidman's publicist, Wendy Day, told AAP: "I personally didn't know, so I'm excited today, very excited.

"For years I've seen speculation and for years it's never been right, so I didn't think it was right this time.

"And then she's just rung this morning.'' Kidman's representatives last week attempted to hose down pregnancy reports, describing them as "gossip", but the New York Post today quoted "extremely well-placed sources" as saying the Australian actress was expecting. Kidman was scheduled to begin shooting the Stephen Daldry-directed post World War II drama, The Reader, with Ralph Fiennes this month.

Fort Lauderdale man faces uphill battle with a mountain of debt

Big student loans and a heap of credit-card debt, but a low-paying job. It's a mismatch so many people face when they're trying to live on starting salaries. For Jamell Vanterpool, the mismatch is hurting him and limiting his future prospects.

"I can't keep up with the bills," he wrote, seeking a South Florida Sun-Sentinel Money Makeover.

There are two big questions he faces: Can he live on his salary? The answer to that one is no. And what can he do about it? That answer depends on what Vanterpool does next.

I Like Big Moats and I Cannot Lie

The term "economic moat" was one that Buffett himself coined. It simply refers to a business' competitive advantages that keep other companies at bay. Finding companies with significant, sustainable competitive advantages has been key to Buffett's phenomenal performance. As the Oracle of Omaha told Fortune magazine:

The key to investing is not assessing how much an industry is going to affect society, or how much it will grow, but rather determining the competitive advantage of any given company and, above all, the durability of that advantage. The products or services that have wide, sustainable moats around them are the ones that deliver rewards to investors.

Emphasis on sustainableAstute readers (and fans of italics) will notice that I placed special emphasis on the sustainability of a company's competitive advantage. I wanted to draw your attention to that point, because in business, most competitive advantages are short-lived.

Paul Domowitch: He looks like a new Manning lately

ESPN "Monday Night Football'' analyst Ron Jaworski said one big reason for Manning's turnaround has been a back-to-basics approach to the offense by Coughlin and coordinator Kevin Gilbride.

"They've really toned down the volume of this offense," said the former Eagles quarterback. "As the season has progressed, they've become more of a power-running team. The offensive line coming off the football. Less formation variation. Less motion.

"I believe they are simplifying the reads for Eli. And clearly, he's doing a better job of handling those reads. I looked at the tape of Sunday's game against Green Bay. The Packers really defined his reads for him. They were playing bump-and-run. He knew immediately where to go with the football."

Prior to the playoffs, Manning had just 16 interceptionless games in 57 career starts.

The First Amendment Gone Wild: Big Pharma’s ‘Right’ to Find Out ...

The founders of the United States took the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the concepts of free speech and freedom of conscience very seriously.

"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech," said Benjamin Franklin.

"Information is the currency of democracy," intoned Thomas Jefferson — one of countless Jefferson odes to the central importance of ideas and free transmission of information in fostering a working democracy.

But could they possibly have imagined the twisted purposes to which the First Amendment is put today?

Two crucial developments in U.S. constitutional jurisprudence — the grant of Bill of Rights protections to corporations, and the extension of First Amendment protections to commercial speech — have enabled corporations to invoke the First Amendment to defend their right to hawk goods, so long as they are legal, by almost any means short of outright lying or clear deception.

iPod Overseas Report: Bangkok, Thailand 11/2007

Apple does sell Apple TVs, and prior-generation video-ready accessories are more widely sold here than they were in Japan—Sonic Impact's Video-55 (and i-P22) are sold by Astone here, "powered by Sonic Impact"—and we've seen i-Theater video glasses, too.

It's obvious that video is considered to be a selling point of the iPod family, and though we have yet to see people actually watching portable videos on the above-ground Skytrain and underground MTS rail systems here, the presence of video advertisements and even music videos on the Skytrains suggests that people are ready for their own devices. Craig David's Hot Stuff, a remake of David Bowie's Let's Dance, has been playing on the Skytrain monitors while we've been in town.

Audio accessories, primarily speakers and cheap headphones, are the biggest local draw.

LANCASTER LEADS LEEDS RENAISSANCE

I knew that we were getting better and going into September our cohesion began to improve.

"We started playing some really good rugby around the end of October.

"Although we picked up some serious injuries, our academy lads stepped in and we came through October and November well and then had a good Christmas.

"We won the crucial games at the crucial times - Exeter away, we drew with Cornish Pirates away and we beat Plymouth at home.

"And although there were one or two little dips along the way, we held our nerve and went one game at a time.

"That was very much our mentality, to focus on the performance and take it one step at a time.

"It served us well as we got promoted as champions, and I don't think we'll be doing too much different this year."

That Lancaster, who joined the club as a student when Headingley merged with Roundhay to form Leeds Tykes in 1992, has presided over a genuine renaissance is undeniable.
