Glendale continues prep for influx of football fans

The pilots, who pay to rent space, balked.

"Unless I say they can move my aircraft, they can't move my aircraft," Peoria resident and private pilot Stan Raskow said. "It was a lack of knowledge of aviation."

Raskow and 80 others formed the Glendale Pilots Association to counter what they viewed as a heavy-handed approach.

Glendale quickly took action. Cathy Gorham, who works in the City Manager's Office and now supervises airport administration, drafted another letter to pilots, including how the city and pilots could work together during the mega-event.

The compromise: The city will reimburse pilots who choose to relocate for the day to other airports in the state with fuel and tie-down expenses. The pilots also were offered one month's free rent.

Giants kicker has faced worse than Coughlin's wrath

Labored in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League before he finally landed a job with the Kansas City Chiefs, then lost it.

- After the premature birth of his twin sons, he missed a 34-yard field goal and an extra point in a 16-3 victory over the Eagles, prompting Coughlin to invite two other kickers to try out for his job.

So, yes, expect Coughlin to a) sneer, b) rant, or c) hurl his headset at Tynes if the itinerant kicker shanks a field goal attempt against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

But don't expect Tynes to shrink from his coach's scorn. Tynes attributed his resilience in part to the struggles he has endured with his family and his quest to make it in the NFL.

"Things in life build your character," he said.
