When the man behind Top Gun says he wants to get into video games, Hollywood listens. Jerry Bruckheimer has announced he will set up a video-game studio with MTV. The music channel plans to spend $US500million ($576million) on video games, initially hoping to horn in on the territory of the billion-dollar Guitar Hero franchise with its own game, Rock Band. Keen to take advantage of the increasing synergies between video games and movies, Bruckheimer is also producing a movie based on the console hit Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Bruckheimer's name might be synonymous with Hollywood schlock but he is on the money when it comes to the future of entertainment. It has been some years since the gaming industry worldwide outgrossed Hollywood and, with cinema attendances flat and DVD sales - the mighty engine of movie growth - finally plateauing, the stage is set for the gaming industry to increase its lead.

Worthy's spokeswoman, Maria Miller, said the phone call came out of the blue Tuesday morning, several hours before the Free Press notified the mayor's office it wanted to interview him and Christine Beatty regarding what the newspaper published Thursday. The call was unusual because Worthy and Kilpatrick have had a distant political relationship. .
Dunedin woman, 38, dies in apartment fire
Christina Foley was struggling to get money to fix her car, which broke down a few weeks ago. Money was so tight, her power was cut off and neighbors said she used candles for light. Authorities are still investigating whether one of those candles sparked the fire that claimed Foley's life at about a quarter past midnight Thursday at her apartment, 1017 Michigan Drive E, Dunedin firefighters found Foley's body just inside the front door. She was 38. The fire is believed to be an accident, said Dunedin Fire Marshal Bill McElligott. The smoke detector did not have a battery. A neighbor tried to rescue Foley but was unsuccessful, he said. A cat found inside the apartment died. A chihuahua was revived by firefighters. No one else was injured.
