Following a flurry of speculation, eBay confirmed that Meg Whitman, its president and CEO, will step down effective March 31 after a highly successful 10-year tenure. She'll remain on the company's board of directors. Whitman is credited with transforming eBay from an obscure San Jose, Calif.-based auction site into an e-commerce powerhouse with more than 15,000 employees and nearly $7.7 billion in revenue.

Showdowns and Stimuli

Paul Gigot: Coming up next on "The Journal Editorial Report," with South Carolina in the rearview mirror, the Democrats look ahead to Super Tuesday states. Will their war of words get nastier as Feb. 5 approaches? Plus the showdown in the Sunshine State. Is Tuesday's Florida primary a must-win for Rudy Giuliani? And the White House and Congress hammer out a deal on an economic stimulus package. But will it work? Our panel debates after these headlines.

Gigot: Welcome to "The Journal Editorial Report." I'm Paul Gigot.

With South Carolina behind them, the Democratic presidential candidates can now turn their full attention to the Super Tuesday states, where the war of words between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is sure to continue. Tensions between the two campaigns erupted anew this week, with Bill Clinton reprising his role as attacker in chief, in a performance some Democratic officials are calling downright unpresidential.

Mayor Mounce: Redevelopment meeting 'waste of time, money'

Calling this week's redevelopment workshop "a waste of time and money," Lodi Mayor JoAnne Mounce sounded off Friday about the city's inability to bring more average Janes and Joes together to talk about their future."Where's the community? Where is everybody?" the mayor implored, during an interview Friday morning. "We've spent a boat load of money on (redevelopment) brochures and community outreach, but it's not working."That's not to mention the spread of sandwich wraps, meatballs and fruit slices the city purchased for the meeting, which Mounce also called a waste of money.Thursday's workshop was held at the LOEL Center on South Washington Street, in the heart of the city's proposed redevelopment district.Roughly 50 people attended, with city officials and real estate professionals making up a large chunk of the crowd.Mounce, who's been skeptical of the city's redevelopment plans, said she saw hardly any Eastside residents there — and compared the overall message to a "sales job" by city leaders.Vice Mayor Larry Hansen, who was not able to attend the meeting, defended the city's outreach efforts.

South Carolina Primary Colors: Black and White?

South Carolina 2000: Six hundred police in riot gear facing a few dozen angry-as-hell workers on the docks of Charleston. In the darkness, rocks, clubs and blood fly. The cops beat the crap out of the protesters. Of course, it's the union men who are arrested for conspiracy to riot. And of course, of the five men handcuffed, four are Black. The prosecutor: a White, Bible-thumping Attorney General running for Governor. The result: a state ripped in half - White versus Black. .

NFL WEEK 9 Picks

The Chiefs have to do the opposite of the Packers and run the ball. With RB Priest Holmes back in the line-up, the Chiefs have a run game that can possibly end up as the best in the league with Holmes and RB Larry Johnson. It all comes down to how healthy Holmes can stay. If Holmes can remain strong through the remainder of the season and there are no major injuries, the Chiefs may have the best chance of winning the AFC West crown. I just don't see the chiefs winning this game. The Packers have the better WRs matching up against the Chiefs secondary. It looks like it's going to be a long day for the Chiefs this Sunday.

My Pick: Packers

San Diego Chargers (4-3) vs. Minnesota Vikings (2-5)

Location: Metronome, Minneapolis, MN

The theme for this year in the NFL is “Pick a QB, any QB" and the Vikes have fallen right down that “rabbit hole". Tavaris Jackson is hurt and Kelly Holcomb is hurt. It looks as though Jackson will play injured. Not a good move. Jeff George (Yes, that Jeff George) offered his services and Brad Childress made jokes about it. He's using a “QB by committee" game plan and you play down the possibility of signing a Free Agent QB as a precautionary measure. Good Luck.

Computerworld's Mac gift guide

With Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday now behind us, the holiday shopping season is in full swing. Last month, Computerworld offered our Holiday Gift Guide to help you sort through this year's gadgets and techie toys.

But shopping for Mac users and Apple fans can sometimes be a challenge—especially if you want to get something other than the obvious choices, or if you're not as big an Apple fan as the person you're shopping for. With that in mind, here are 10 great gift ideas for the Mac user on your list.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

If you're shopping for a die-hard Mac fan, chances are good that he has already upgraded to Leopard, which has been out since Oct. 26. Many users, however, delay making a major upgrade like this for weeks or months—sometimes for cost-related reasons, sometimes to make sure those first-release bugs have been found and fixed.

Huffington Horror: Maher Writer Mocks Death of Ann Coulter's Dad

Columnist Ann Coulter should probably not sign up to be a guest on Bill Maher's HBO show anytime soon. Maher writer Chris Kelly took her column on the death and funeral of her father, John Vincent Coulter, and mocked her and the dead man relentlessly on The Huffington Post. He even compared her dead father to Hitler. Remember, in our Special Report, we recalled Arianna Huffington proclaimed her site wouldn't be known for "flame-throwing, name-calling, and simplistic attack dog rhetoric." (What a pile of souvlaki that boast was.)

Chris Kelly, who on this day qualified as the Least Compassionate Man in America, explained he had "taken the liberty of going through the eulogy -- cutting the Kennedy material -- and punching up the rest." Such as:

The longest baby ever born at the Albany, N.Y., hospital, at least as of May 5, 1926, who grew up to be my strapping father, passed away last Friday morning.
