She's on a cocktail of pills to control the condition, which has caused VOMITING, ACHING limbs and a mysterious SWELLING in her stomach. "It's been a nightmare. At first I thought I just had a virus," said Jo, 35, who lives alone with just her boxer dog Molly for company. "I felt as though I was going to collapse one night when I was at a gig, but I just haven't got any better and this horrible lump in my stomach won't go away. "If I'm well enough to take the dog out for a walk, that will finish me off for the rest of the day. "The doctors haven't been able to find out what's wrong and have put me on everything from pills to stop me being sick to anti-depressants." It's a far cry from her heyday in the Nineties, when her platinum blonde hair and her 34-24-34 figure made her as popular as Jordan is today.
Turkey's Drug-Terrorism Connection
Witnesses in the October Surprise inquiry into an alleged Republican-Iranian hostage deal in 1980 claimed that they were allowed to select weapons from NATO stockpiles in Europe for shipment to Iran. [Iranian arms dealer Houshang Lavi claimed that he selected spare parts for Hawk anti-aircraft batteries from NATO bases along the Belgian-German border. Another witness, American arms broker William Herrmann, corroborated Lavi's account of NATO supplies going to Iran. [Even former NATO commander Alexander Haig confirmed that NATO supplies could have gone to Iran in the early 1980s while he was secretary of state. "It wouldn't be preposterous if a nation, Germany, for example, decided to let some of their NATO stockpiles be diverted to Iran," Haig said in an interview.
Mistaken identity
I can hardly bear it any more." She had genital surgery in 1986. Growing up as a boy in Glasgow, she was bullied because of her androgynous looks. She started dressing as a woman full-time at 18 and found herself being complimented on her appearance. "Suddenly people weren't throwing stones at me," she says. But she believes she should never have been allowed to change sex. "I changed for all the wrong reasons," Claudia admits. She hoped the surgery would save her troubled relationship with her boyfriend and business partner. "I'm not saying that I was deranged but I was certainly the saddest I'd ever been." Desperate to be referred to a surgeon, renowned in the transsexual community, who was due to retire, she went to see a psychiatrist. "I said, I want this doctor to do my surgery, and therefore the race is on.
German FM indicates recognition of Kosovo independence
BERLIN, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The majority of European Union (EU) member states are to recognize the independence of Kosovo, and Germany would follow suit, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier indicated in a radio interview on Sunday. In an interview with public broadcaster Deutschlandfunk, Steinmeier, who chose his words with care, said history could not be stopped. Earlier last week, Kosovo's leaders announced plans to declare independence after Feb. 3, the date of the run-off in the Serbian presidential elections between incumbent Boris Tadic and nationalist Tomislav Nikolic. "Naturally we are preparing ourselves for the situation and naturally we know how we will have to react in this case," Steinmeier said.
Rebates could be in mail by May
Boehner said the agreement "was not easy for the two of us and our respective caucuses." "You know, many Americans believe that Washington is broken," the Ohio Republican said. "But I think this agreement, and I hope that this agreement will show the American people that we can fix it." Paulson said he would work with the House and Senate to enact the package and declared that "speed is of the essence." He cautioned that "the work is far from over." The agreement left some lawmakers in both parties with a bitter taste, and they complained that their leaders had sacrificed too much in the interest of striking a deal. Many senior Democrats were particularly upset that the package omitted the unemployment extension. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the goal is to send the package to the White House by Feb.
Kannapolis risk takers reap reward
But even after intense analysis of population growth, traffic patterns, land costs and other factors, there can be big surprises. That's what the City of Kannapolis and MarkPiercePoole Properties Inc. discovered at 85-acre Kannapolis Gateway Park, a public-private venture at N.C. 73 and Kannapolis Parkway. Just as they were starting the first building about five years ago, Pillowtex abruptly closed, throwing more than 4,000 people out of work in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties and casting a pall over the local economy. The bad news raised concerns among the participants, but in the end they decided it was in the best interest of the community to proceed, said partner Chip Mark of MarkPiercePoole. The risk was rewarded. Today the business park is full.
