India deploys Irdeto security solution

News Corporation and NBC Universal have confirmed the launch of what they claim as the largest Internet video distribution network ever assembled with the most sought-after content from television and film.

The site will debut this summer with thousands of hours of full-length programming, movies and clips, representing premium content from at least a dozen networks and two major film studios.

AOL, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo! will be the new site’s initial distribution partners. Their users, who represent 96 per cent of the monthly US unique users on the Internet, will have unlimited access to the site's library of content. The media alliance will offer consumers free long- and short-form video and create a platform for advertisers, targeting online video consumers.

Rudd may take razor to public service

In Lismore, in northern New South Wales, to visit the State Emergency Service headquarters and promise $140,000 for flood control works, Mr Rudd was asked about plans for limiting government spending at a time of inflationary pressure and rising interest rates.

He said he indicated some time ago that a Labor government would form a razor gang to work with the Department of Finance to cut costs.

An early target would be the Government's technical colleges which Labor say needlessly duplicate the existing under-funded TAFE colleges.

Mr Rudd said the last time the Coalition imposed the razor gang was back in 1996-97 when the incoming Howard Government took to the bureaucracy built up by Labor over the previous 13 years.

He today indicated a Labor government might reciprocate, saying the $2bn identified by Labor finance spokesman Lindsay Tanner showed the potential for saving.
