| Resident barricade halts phone mast
Construction of a phone mast in Coulsdon has been halted after more than 100 angry protesters barricaded the site. Residents and parents blocked two trucks and two cranes from accessing the proposed mast site on Sandown Road this morning in a bid to stop the transmitter being fixed to a building opposite Chipstead Valley Primary School. The protesters, under the banner of the Radio Action group, said their were already 15 mobile masts in less than one square mile of the school. A Radio Action spokesman said the 10 workmen remained in Sandown Road for more than two hours before turning back after discussions with residents. He said the group was concerned about the health effects of mobile mast transmissions, particularly on children.
In the world of online community, one authoritative man can dictate ...
"They're everywhere," says Dr. Dennis Desjardin, a professor of mycology at San Francisco State University. "It's mostly Psilocybe cyanescens. They come up all over the State campus here in the parks, in yards, San Jose, in Marin. They grow almost anywhere that people have spread wood chips." According to Desjardin, Psilocybe cyanescens will grow independently on most available soils, especially those that have been disturbed by gardening activity. As the mushrooms sprout, they draw up wholesome minerals and nutrients, then reconstruct them into the unlawful psychedelic alkaloids that have been sending free spirits on lofty trips for decades. But the mushrooms haven't always grown wild here. "The reason they're really starting to show up around the Bay Area is that people have them in cultivation," says Phil Carpenter, co-manager of the Fungus Federation of Santa Cruz.
Memo to Giants: Shut your Big Blue mouths before the Super Bowl!
When the Giants take off for Arizona Monday, someone should hand each player a card containing five things not to say when speaking to the SRO crowd of notebooks and microphones. 1)Don't guarantee anything. 2)Don't say the Patriots cheated. 3)Don't say the Patriots "really aren't" that good. 4)Don't say our road to the Super Bowl was tougher than theirs. 5)Don't say our receiving corps is as good as theirs. Oh, Plaxico Burress already said that. In the media spotlight, the Giants, under the direction of Tom Coughlin, have done a good job of staying focused throughout this playoff run. The bulbs start getting brighter Monday. The chances of any real news coming out of a Super Bowl site are always slim.
